I've been lucky enough so far to avoid any really bad editors. I have had a few make comments that I don't agree with, but such is life. We're all looking for different things. I'd actually be scared as an editor making a call on something factual unless I know 200% that I was right. I tend to assume that most authors will research the background of their story. There are some great editors out there. And if you get a stupid rejection letter from a bad editor? From the person who couldn't figure out why on earth someone would be speaking Danish in Greenland, for example, or from the person who told me that every story should start with a detailed physical description of the main character, or from the person who said they didn't like elf stories when my story had no elves nor even hints of elves? Arguing with them *will not help*. Filing them under "cuckoo" and moving on to a different publication is still a much better use of one's time than arguing.
