Nano

Today’s progress:

Project: Requiem draft one.
New words: 3.047
Total word count: 16,601
Goal: 50,000 words (for Nanowrimo, the final draft will be longer of course)

Writing: I just typed in 16k and had to stare at that for a moment.  That’s a lot of words for just a few days.  Too bad that a lot of them are rubbish.  It’s funny, though, because in the back of my mind I’m already figuring out how to fix up some of that rubbish.  This novel might be a mess now, but I can make it into something good.

Real life: Went for a walk and got rained on a lot, did grocery shopping.

Today’s progress:

Project: Requiem draft one.
New words: 5,210
Total word count: 13,553
Goal: 50,000 words (for Nanowrimo, the final draft will be longer of course)

Writing: Yeah, that word count is a bit increased from the last two days.  Amazing what a couple of nights of good sleep does.  And crap weather, which means that going outside is very unappealing.

Real life: Not a lot, thanks to the weather being crappy.  I did intend on going out for a walk, but I’m still babying the human suit a bit right now, so sitting with the laptop all day was appealing and productive.

Nano…

Today’s progress:

Project: Requiem draft one.
New words: 2,231
Total word count: 8,343
Goal: 50,000 words (for Nanowrimo, the final draft will be longer of course)

Writing: Not a bad day, but not great.  I’m beginning to wonder if signing up to Nano is worth it.  But then again, I probably would still be writing garbage without it, so I might as well have something to aim for.  Getting to 50k is enough, I guess.  I think I’m just burned out from working on novels continuously.  Plus it’s just been too long since I’ve worked on a first draft – I’d forgotten how much fumbling in the dark it is.

Real life: Not much.  Managed to get some decent sleep last night, which is a very good thing.  I still feel half exhausted, though.

Nano Day 3

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Today’s progress:

Project: Requiem draft one.
New words: 2,072
Total word count: 6,112
Goal: 50,000 words (for Nanowrimo, the final draft will be longer of course)

Writing: Right now I hate this novel.  I just can’t find my way into it right now.  But I’m going to keep on going, and hopefully find something in amongst this mess of words.

Real life:  I am utterly exhausted, which isn’t helping Nano at all.  Every word was like pulling teeth today because of the exhaustion.  I did get the house cleaned as well, which is something.

Nano, Day 2

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Today’s progress:

Project: Requiem draft one.
New words: 1,837
Total word count: 4,040
Goal: 50,000 words (for Nanowrimo, the final draft will be longer of course)

Writing: I would have liked a higher word sound today, but I’m happy to get something.  It’s all forward progress.

I really battle with the idea of Nano, since my instincts are to go back and rework what I’ve already written, to make it work better.  I’m forcing myself to keep on moving forward at the moment, which is what Nano is about, after all.

Real life: Family lunch for my mother’s birthday, which used up most of my spoons.  I’m already exhausted, thanks to the flare that doesn’t want to end and a really crappy night of sleep last night.  Which is why I’m glad to get any work done today at all.  I think I’m going to go and waste a few hours playing computer games, just to give my brain a rest.

Nano has begun!

Today’s progress:

Project: Requiem draft one.
New words: 2,202
Total word count: 61,397
Goal: 50,000 words (for Nanowrimo, the final draft will be longer of course)

Writing: I will admit to being very bad about starting Nanowrimo.  I can’t even blame tiredness, either.  I simply spent a good chunk of the afternoon watching the husband play Fallout 3, which is an extremely pretty game.  Thankfully, I had the brain power to get some writing done this evening.  Which is actually pretty unusual for me, to be honest.

I have a reall rough starting point, one which I think is probably going to get changed.  In the normal scheme of things, I’d probably mess with it a lot more and make sure that it’s working well before I moved on.  But since I’m doing Nano, I’m going to just keep moving on.  I’m working without a real outline at the moment.  I have the next few scenes planned out, and I have some vague ideas for some scenes I want to work towards, and that’s about it.  It’s been so long since I’ve worked on a first draft of something that I’m slightly worried, but also having fun at the same time.

I was actually hoping to get more words in today, since it’s likely that I won’t have any writing time tomorrow due to family commitments, but I’ll accept what I have.  I can catch up during the week if I need to.  Considering that I average about 50k a month without pushing myself, I think I’ll be safe getting to the Nano goal.  Providing things don’t go horribly wrong.

Real life: Watched the husband play far too much Fallout 3.  Tried to figure out why wordpress isn’t cross-posting to LJ at the moment, then tried to find a fix for it (I’m thinking it’s an issue with the latest WordPress upgrade), and then gave up.  Haven’t really accomplished much of anything apart from a successful shopping trip in which the husband got shiny things this morning.  It’s been that kind of a Saturday.
