42C = not fun

Today’s progress:

Project: Shaede line edits.

Pages edited: 50

Total pages: 429

Goal: 429 pages (changed formatting, so numbers are different)

Writing:

…and these edits are finished.  As always, going through the manuscript, I found a million things I could tweak.  I could conceivably keep on tweaking forever, and so I’m going to stop now.

Worked more on the query letter (many thanks to those who have been helping there) and spent time working up a list of agents to query.

Next week, I shall begin work on a first draft of Requiem and start querying for Shaede.  It’s going to be nice to be generating words again.

Real life:

Laundry.  Avoiding the heat.  It got to just a smidge under 42C today.  Never have I been more happy to have good air conditioning.

Today’s progress:

Project: Shaede line edits.

Pages edited: 47

Total pages: 379

Goal: 430 pages (changed formatting, so numbers are different)

Writing:

Editing was actually pretty good today.  Caffeine, in moderation, can be a good thing.

I also finished writing the damn synopsis of this novel, and started bashing my head against a query.  Which is currently acting only to make me want to go back and rewrite the book.  Sigh.

Real life:

Managed a walk and grocery shopping.  I think I’m finally starting to feel normal again.

Slowly

Today’s progress:

Project: Shaede line edits.

Pages edited: 44

Total pages: 332

Goal: 433 pages (changed formatting, so numbers are different)

Writing:

Editing wasn’t so bad today, despite the fact that my brain wanted to be doing nothing at all.  One of those days.

The numbers have changed, since I changed the formatting on the MS today.  I was reading it deliberately with different formatting earlier, but it bugged me too much to keep on doing so.

I am still plodding along with the synopsis and finally started working on the query.  Both of which are totally unfun, but needed.  Glamour!  It’s there somewhere.  Really.

Real life:

Not a lot.  The human suit is still being stupid in general.

A star within a star…

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Today’s progress:

Project: Shaede line edits.

Pages edited: 32

Total pages: 220

Goal: 335 pages

Writing:

Editing was going well today, until the human suit had other ideas.  Mid-afternoon crash led to a nap and much feeling of awfulness.  Sigh.  Such is life with the human suit.

I did also make a start on getting a synopsis together.  I’ve been doing research at the same time as editing, preparing a list of agents so I can start submitting once I have this editing done, as well as written the synopsis and a query.

Real life:

Not a lot.

I waited for you, but nobody ever came…

Today’s progress:

Project: Shaede line edits.

Pages edited: 33

Total pages: 188

Goal: 337 pages

Writing:

Editing went much better today.  Though my brain still felt exhausted after 30 pages.  I guess the human suit is still recovering, so things might be slow going for a while.

This story is sinking its teeth into me again.  I’m finding myself wanting to go back to the sequel I’ve written, Daemon, which is currently in first draft.  There’s not much point in working on it until I’ve sold this one, though.  Better to work on diversity.

I need to do a post sometime about all of the different novels brewing in my mind.  They seem to be breeding these days.

Real life:

Cleaned the house, did laundry.

Total words for 2009: 0 <— I am beginning to loathe this zero.  Hopefully next week I’ll start generating some words, dammit.  Though technically, I could probably allocate some words for this editing.

Better

Today’s progress:

Project: Shaede line edits.

Pages edited: 30

Total pages: 157

Goal: 338 pages

Writing:

Editing is still slow.  And kind of boring.  But it needs to be done.  I’m just frustrated by the slowness of this.

Real life:

I’m starting to feel a lot better, though I’m still tired.  Hopefully by next week I’ll be feeling human again, and able to start doing more work.

I didn’t do much else of consequence today other than a couple of loads of laundry.  Such is my exciting life.

It's summer, and the air is shimmering to heat

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Today’s progress:

Project: Shaede line edits.

Pages edited: 35

Total pages: 127

Goal: 338 pages (Just figured out that my page numbering was off)

Writing:

Still slow going.  But it’s getting done, and that’s the main thing.

Real life:

Still not doing well healthwise.  Well, I am doing better in that the infections are clearing up, but I’m exhausted and dizzy.  It should pass the worst of it within the next few days.

Still, I did manage to go grocery shopping this morning, as well as going to the chemist to refill prescriptions.  We’ll just ignore the almost passing-out that occurred because of that.

Medication = good, but evil

Today’s progress:

Project: Shaede line edits.

Pages edited: 37

Total pages: 92

Goal: 444 pages

Writing:

Slowest editing in the world.  I’m probably missing bits, too, but I want to get this done, dammit.  I don’t want to lose any more time to being sick.

I really want to start working on something else while I’m editing, but the brain’s just not having that.

Real life:

Combination of meds are making me feel like crap.  Didn’t sleep well last night, and I spent a large chunk of today feeling sick to my stomach.  I’m glad I got anything productive done at all.

Not the most productive day

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Today’s progress:

Project: Shaede line edits.

Pages edited: 27

Total pages: 55

Goal: 444 pages

Writing:

Very short editing session today.  Would have been more, but real life intervened.  Sigh.  Still, there weren’t too many major edits – just killing some repeated words and picking up a few spelling errors here and there.

Real life:

Doctor’s appointment, which took far too many spoons.  I have a nice fistful of new meds, which hopefully won’t knock me out completely.  And will kill this infection dead dead dead.

Back in the swing of things

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Today’s progress:

Project: Shaede line edits.
Pages edited: 28
Total pages: 444
Goal: All pages edited!

Writing:

Yeah, ignore the “words” on that metre.  I’m sure I could hunt one
up that I could customise properly, maybe another day.  Just trying to
get back into the swing of things slowly.  My first goal for the year
is to get Shaede sent out to another round of agents, so I’m making sure the manuscript is as good as it can be.

I’m actually getting sucked into my own story, which has to be a good
thing :)   Line edits, for me, need a decent amount of concentration,
which I don’t have a lot of (I’m still kind of sick, though better than
I’ve been for the last month or so).  So it’s slow progress.  But still
progress.

I also worked on beginning to compile a list of agents to query.  I’m
going to scrap my old query package and start anew, which I’ll be
working on at the same time as these line edits.  It should keep me
busy for a little while, and hopefully be a gentle way to get my
routine back into gear.

Real life:

Cleaned the house, sweated a lot despite the air conditioning
(It was something like 36C here today.  Still warm at the moment, but
tolerable).
