Mirror is a temporary title, until I can think of something better. The men in the basement are working on it.

Today is not a good day to be a writer. I’m reworking an old piece, and struggling so far. This piece is a few years old, and Gods, the writing is crappy. I guess I must have learned something if I can see that.

I’m fumbling in the dark with this piece at the moment, though, and I suspect all of these words will get scrapped tomorrow. I also need a good title, since the one I have sucks.

I’m going to go and play with photos and hope the men in the basement get to work.

Finally finished this draft of Narthex. Now there’s just minor editing to go, and it can wing its way off into the world.

Now, the question is what to do next. I do have another short I want to work on for a market, but I’m not sure if I’ll have the time to get it up to scratch. I might have a play with it over the next few days, anyway. Right now, I’m all kinds of keen to get stuck into Thought and Memory again, but I’m also wanting to get some shorts out into the world again. It’s been too long since an acceptance, dammit.

I also have a pile of review work, thanks to my continued ability to take on far more than I should. I need to get myself back to being disciplined with it. In fact, I should get some review reading done right now.

Still whittling away at the draft of Narthex. I’d hoped to have it all finished but for line edits today, but there’s still a good chunk to go. Tomorrow, then.

I’d intended on getting some work done over the weekend, but it wasn’t to be. As if on cue, the human suit decided that some downtime was needed. So I spent a lot of the time trying to watch movies, read books, or do anything productive. It didn’t really happen.

Come this morning, and everything seems to be reset. I cleaned the house and managed a fine word count. Go me.

Busy day. I’d actually intended on just doing some minor edits to Narthex, but somehow I found myself reworking parts of it. I’d actually wanted to get all of the edits done today, but that wasn’t going to happen, for lo! there was laundry to be done and a garden to be weeded.

You’ll all be relieved to know that the laundry has been done and the garden has (partially) been weeded. And now I’m enjoying a lovely cold bottle of ginger beer.

You can add another 1,402 words to the daily total. Some of which were reworking of stuff from earlier this afternoon.

I now have an ending that I like more, and which makes more sense.

Draft two of Narthex is complete. I’m not happy with the ending right now, so I might go back and work on it again tomorrow. Apart from that, it just needs a little polishing before it can be sent off into the world.

It’s actually kind of nice to be working on a short piece, since there’s less plot to keep track of. Unfortunately, I’ve discovered some things that are different between Narthex and Thought and Memory, which are going to involve going back and rewriting some bits of TaM. I’m trying to resist the urge to go back to the beginning of TaM again. Need to get the whole draft finished, dammit.
